Trips and Visits

So far this year we have run the following trips and visits, allowing students to build on their education and enhance their life experiences and opportunities, no matter where their interest or passion lies.

Sports Fixtures

Our PE department continues to support students in their sporting endeavours.  Students have taken part in sports fixtures against other schools in Essex in football, futsal, netball, rugby, and cross country.

RHS Gardens Hyde Hall Educational Visit

The academy arranged a visit to RHS Garden Hyde Hall Educational Unit for members of the Environmental group, and other students who show an interest in Environmental studies. The purpose of the trip was to gain a better understanding of Biodiversity, sustainable planting, carbon neutralisation, wildflower growing & maintenance and effective vegetable growing in a small area.

Eyes on the Prize – ARU Chelmsford

A visit was arranged to Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford Campus as Year 9 students were invited to attend the annual “Eyes on the Prize” event. January is an important month for Year 9 students, as this is the time when GCSE options start to be considered and choices made about the courses that they would like to follow in Years 10 and 11 for their GCSEs. The purpose of the visit was to help our students gain an insight into where GCSE courses can take them and widen aspirations. Year 9 students spent the morning at Anglia Ruskin University getting a taste for university life and exploring the qualifications needed and the career opportunities that can open when you go to university.

Theatre trips

Students have taken part in trips to see productions of ‘Matthew Bourne’s Edward Scissorhands’ and ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ in London and productions of ‘The Woman In Black’ and ‘Six: The Musical’ at Cliffs Pavilion and Palace Theatre in Southend.

This has allowed students to immerse themselves in the theatre and to study both stage production and professional acting.

Geography Field Trips

GCSE Geography students are required to undertake geographical enquiries, which must include the use of primary data, collected as part of a fieldwork exercise. The fieldwork must take place outside the classroom and school grounds. So far this year the Geography Department have planned and organised three field trips for year 10 and 11 students to Debden Brook, Walton-on-the-Naze and Stratford.

The Snow Centre, Hemel Hempstead

The academy gave the opportunity for students going on the 2024 Ski Trip to attend a ‘Taster Session’ at The Snow Centre at Hemel Hempstead. At The Snow Centre they have a huge 160m main slope as well as the largest indoor ski lesson slope in the UK. The ski slope is over 30m wide and maintained with the perfect snow surface, perfect for Ormiston students to practice before the real thing!
