A video welcome from Mrs Baker
Dear Year 6 students,
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to Ormiston Rivers Academy as our new Year 7 intake in September 2020.
We are really excited about getting to know you all and helping you on your journey over the next five, or even seven, years. Although that seems like a long time right now, those years will fly by, and we want to make sure that you get the very best possible out of every moment.
In the meantime, we would like to introduce you to our brand new “transition hub”, which has been designed entirely for you! Here you will find lots of things to challenge you, to inspire you and to entertain you. We hope you enjoy it.
Take care, and we look forward to seeing you personally very soon.
Mrs Baker, Principal
A video welcome from Miss Hayward
Hi Year 6,
My name is Miss Hayward, and I am going to be your Achievement Director for this year. I am really looking forward to meeting you all, and it’s such a shame that we are unfortunately under different circumstances than usual, and things can’t proceed as they usually would. Regardless of this, I am confident that your transition into secondary school will run smoothly.
I know this may feel like an extremely nerve-wracking and anxious time for you all, but I can promise that I will do my best to ease these feelings and worries for you. Coming into secondary school will also be exciting; you will get a new sense of independence and you will learn to become responsible for your own learning.
I am excited to be a part of your journey at Ormiston Rivers and I am confident that as a team, we will be the best year group in the school! I can’t wait to get to know you all and to spend this year working with you. If you ever need anything, I am going to be right there to help or point you in the right direction. If you've any worries or questions you can email me (email below!)
Miss Hayward, Year 7 Achievement Director
We want to support you to be ready to learn with us and keep your brains buzzing over the Summer! Click on the images below to download our Transition Work for English, Maths and Science. The learning resources on the year 6 transition hub do not need to be printed off. All work for the core subjects should be completed online. Non-core subject challenges can be kept by students and brought into school to be shared with their mentor groups in September. However, we recognise that not all households may have internet access or easy access to an appropriate device. If this is the case, please contact Jackie Edwards on [email protected] to register for an alternative hard copy.
The final deadline for completion of this work is 31st August. This allows students plenty of time to have a good look at it and some planning time for ORA staff. The work is designed to support transition and can be attempted when you feel it is right for your child.

One of the big differences between Primary and Secondary School is the number of teachers and support staff. There are nearly 100 members of staff at our academy who can't wait to meet you! Below are some welcome messages from a few of the people you will be seeing a lot of. They are ready and waiting to support you as you start at Ormiston Rivers.
Meet some of our team...
Please allow us to introduce the year 7 mentor team to you! You will find out which of these teachers is your mentor when you arrive in September but we thought you might want to get to know each other a bit before then. You will be spending 25 minutes every morning with them in your mentor groups.

SEND and Enhanced Transition
In addition to the support this hub provides to all our new year 7 students, we also want to provide an enhanced transition service for those who need it. Moving from a small primary school to a much larger secondary school, with the changes in familiarity and challenge of everything being new, can be a difficult transition for many year 6 students. The impact of COVID 19 this year has presented an even greater hurdle for young people to overcome.
The quality of mental health support and the wellbeing of all our students is of primary importance in what we do at Ormiston Rivers Academy. With this in mind, and the need to support families and young people coming to us in September, enhanced transition support will provide a direct one to one link with the SEND team here at Ormiston Rivers. We have already been in contact with the Primary SENCOs of our feeder schools to help identify and contact the parents of those children who require enhanced transition. Part of this support will be the opportunity to have a virtual online video meeting or telephone call to get to know some of the key members of staff face to face and ask any questions you may have.
If you would like to discuss the individual needs of your child, or have any queries regarding the nature of SEND provision here at Ormiston Rivers Academy, please feel free to email me at [email protected].
If your child is on medication or may need an emergency inhaler for asthma, please read the medical letters below and complete the form if necessary.

All About Me
Clicking on this link will take you to a Google Form that you can fill in as a project that will give you a chance to introduce yourself to your mentor and mentor group.
Once you start filling in the form, you will have to submit it in order to save your progress but you can return to it and make changes as often as you like.
When it is completed, the information and images that you provide will be transformed into a digital booklet that you can keep and print out if you choose to. This will also be given to your Achievement Director and your Mentor so they can learn a little bit about you before you begin your time at Ormiston Rivers Academy. We hope you enjoy it!
Using this form will require you to have or to set up a Google account which is free to do and recommended as it will help you to access additional resources in the future.
