ORA Strava Challenge - House Competition

Calling all Year 7-11 students and all staff!  Can you be as active as possible this half term by using the app called Strava.

Students are going head to head against Houses in the bid to be the most travelled House in the school as they run, cycle or walk around their local area.

All you need to do is click the links below and go! We will post regular updates on our school website and House Instagram.

1. Download the strava app: - www.strava.com

2. Click on one of these links depending on your House.

https://www.strava.com/clubs/ amazonhouseora

https://www.strava.com/clubs/ danubehouseora

https://www.strava.com/clubs/ mekonghouseora

https://www.strava.com/clubs/ zambezihouseora

If the link doesn’t take you to the group immediately, you will need to go to ‘search club’ and then type in either, “Amazon House”, “Danube House”, “Mekong House” or “Zambezi House”. The school logo will then appear and you can request to join the club. Our location says “London”.

If you are searching for the clubs after you’ve opened the app, follow these steps:

  1. Open Strava app

  2. Click ‘explore’ at the bottom

  3. Click on ‘clubs’ at the top

  4. And then search for your house just like above in the ‘find a club’ search bar.

Celebrating Our Successes...

Girls Basketball

This past term the year 7 girls basketball team participated in another rally at Great Baddow in which this time they improved upon their 2nd place from the previous rally to come 1st and win overall. The girls who represented the school within basketball are to be commended for their commitment to consistently turning up to club on a Tuesday after school to improve their ability within the sport.

Rugby

Rugby at Ormiston Rivers Academy has gone from strength to strength in 2019/20.  It is the first time ever in the History of Ormiston Rivers that we have entered an A & B team in the YR 7 and YR 8 MESSSA Rugby Tournaments. We have 4 Waterfall tournaments for YR 7 and YR 8 each year.

Our Yr 8 A team is in group A playing against schools such as Great Baddow Sports College, St Martins, Boswells and Moulsham. Despite an early finish to the season we’re delighted to announce that the Year 8 rugby team are the District Champions after topping their group!!!! Congratulations to everyone that played this year. Massive respect to the B team who were undefeated against other B teams and worked tirelessly against other teams. Hopefully a bright future awaits!

Our YR 7 A team are also playing in group A. We are currently 3rd in MESSSA for YR 7 rugby. Our B team is playing in Group C and has won some games. We are very proud of all our boys representing ORA in YR 7 & 8 Rugby.

Girls Football

The year 7 and 8 girls football teams have been great since the beginning of the year, the commitment from the year 7 & 8 girls to turn up to after school training is to be commended. The year 7's games have reflected their commitment going from losing their first match of the year to St. Martins to now improving their record to include wins and draws. We look forward to continuing this work in the near future for 7 a side and futsal.

Cross Country

Blake Winfield placed 4th and Fran Turner 7th in Mid Essex, both qualified to represent Mid Essex at Cross Country County Championships. Thank you to everyone else that represents us at Hyland Park that day.

Golf

Charlie Turner, winner of County handicap championships in October 2019.

Swimming

Many thanks to our first ever ORA swimming teams. Boys and girls represented us in both medley and freestyle relays at South Woodham Ferrers In January. Congratulations to the boys for reaching both finals. We hope this is a strong building block for next year.

Year 7

We’d also like to say thank you and well done to the commitment shown by our Yr 7 teams.

Both netball and football teams have enjoyed a good season and despite the fact we couldn’t finish our league campaigns it’s been a great year nonetheless. Well done!
