The sporting year consistently builds up over the year but district sports is the single most competitive competition which takes place at Chelmsford Athletics Centre over numerous athletic events.
80 students from years 7-11 made the early journey in order to compete against the best Chelmsford and the surrounding areas had to offer.
In the end Ormiston improved upon last years results by scoring an additional 33 points and improving by two places to finish 10th. In total 51 Students placed 8th or higher in field events or tack finals, yet again an improvement on last year.
Special credit to the year 7 boys who finished 6th overall and to our individual district winners Charlie Young for Javelin, Fran Turner for 1500m, Jamie Rashbrook in the 400m and Connor Balaam in the 200m.
As ever we urge anyone who enjoys their athletics to seek a local athletics club. Chelmsford or Basildon being the closest.
Next year our aim is to make further improvements and reach a new record points total for our school.
Yr 7 County Championships
3rd July, yet again at Chelmsford, 4 Yr 7 boys made the journey to represent Mid Essex at the County Championships.
Jamie Aldous (100m) didn’t make the final but put in a strong time for the mid Essex team. Jamie’s heat saw a time of 12.13 seconds being ran!
In the field events Owen Gillett secured 6th place in shot put with just 11cm being the difference from him and a podium finish.
Charlie Young in the javelin however did make the podium with a throw over 26m which secured him 3rd place in the County!! Well done Charlie.
Special mention also goes to Leo Bladen who was selected as a substitute for the 200m but wasn’t required on the day.
4 students is a record number of students to make the year 7 team from our academy and were incredibly proud of them for their efforts over the season.
