As part of the national initiative to use lateral flow device tests, we aim to help staff and students remain in school safely. Up to a third of those with COVID show no symptoms. The lateral flow testing plan will help to reduce the spread of the virus and it will enable us to have students in school more often. The test is voluntary but everyone is encouraged to take the test so that we can use it in the most effective way.

Parents and students need to consent to the test being administered. Please read the Privacy Notice and complete the relevant consent form below. These can also be picked up from reception.

Our proposed plan… this is subject to change but we will keep you updated:

  1. Parents/carers need to provide consent for their child to have the tests.

  2. During the week beginning 4th January 2021, you will be notified of your child’s test dates and times (for exam groups)

  3. Students will register at the dedicated reception in the main hall on the day and time of their test.

  4. Students will complete a supervised test

  5. The testing processor will analyse the result and interpret the result as negative, positive or invalid.

  6. Students, parents/carers will be informed if the result is positive. If the test result is invalid, students will need to repeat the test. In line with government guidance if the test result is negative students, parents/carers will not be informed. Students with negative results will be expected to attend school as normal from their designated start date.

  7. Students that test positive will need to take another test and we will be in touch regarding the details of this.

  8. The test process takes approximately 15 minutes including registration and conducting the test.

  9. The results of the test will be ready in approximately 30 minutes.

  10. Students will take a second test and repeat this process 3 to 5 days after the first test.

We aim to start testing the week beginning of the 4th January 2021. The following testing programme is planned but this is subject to change and subject to us receiving the necessary testing equipment which is due to arrive on or after 4th January 2021.

Friday 8th and Monday 11th testing for Year 11, 12 and 13,

Once exam groups have had the test twice, we will be in touch with other year groups to confirm dates and timings.

What if my child tests positive on the lateral flow test?

  • Parents/carers of students who test positive will be informed

  • Students will need to take a further ‘PCR test’ (similar to those done in local and regional testing sites) on the same day (or as soon as possible). Parents will be required to arrange these.

  • Until the PCR result is obtained, the student will need to self isolate.

  • If the PCR test returns a positive result you will have to self-isolate and follow the guidance from NHS Test and Trace.

What if a close contact tests positive?

A close contact of someone in school who has tested positive will be able to be in school as long as they agree to be tested daily for 7 days, and as long as each test is negative. If a student does not wish to be tested then they need to self isolate for the required length of time.

What if my child develops symptoms?

If your child develops symptoms, they should self isolate immediately and arrange a PCR test

For Year 11,12 and 13 students  will be invited into school on Wednesday 6th and Saturday 9th to have two tests as per the guidance shared by the Government. The tests need to be done three days apart, due to the logistics of this and ensuring everything is in place we can not start these until Wednesday. We will be prioritising exam groups this week, so please ensure that you have completed the consent form and send this urgently to or collect/drop off the consent form to the main reception.

We will only carry out tests if consent forms have been completed. Students will need to bring their phone with them, if they have one, as they will need to register with NHS Track and Trace for the results of their test to be recorded. Students will complete the covid tests themselves (swab throat and nose) - guidance is attached:

We will have a team of support staff and volunteers that will explain what the students have to do. Testing is not compulsory however I strongly advise that your child has this test to ensure that we are not spreading  covid unknowingly. Students will need to be on site for 15 minutes on both days and as above we will confirm 24 hours prior what time they will need to be on site. As you will appreciate this has taken hours of planning prior to school being open, so I appreciate you working with us in these difficult times. If you have had private tests arranged, we will need a copy of the results prior to returning. These should also be sent to

The aim to test other year groups will be confirmed in the next few days, once we have prioritized exam groups and know the confirmed start date for Year 7-10.

I don’t believe any of us welcomed this news, however it is paramount that we work together to ensure the children’s  safety, learning and emotional wellbeing remain our priority and I thank you, as always, for your support at this challenging time
