Parent Feedback July 2020
As we are nearing the end of the school year, I would like to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you, to you and all the staff at Ormiston Rivers Academy. My son, is in Year 7 and had settled in incredibly well to his secondary school journey, I was already impressed by the support and enthusiasm of the teaching staff, and the amazing opportunities open to [him] from the outset. Unfortunately, we were then faced with an unprecedented situation where [his] first year at Ormiston was cut short, and suddenly he had to completely change his way of working and socialising with his friends.
I was concerned at what impact this would have on him, both educationally and mentally. However, 15 weeks on and he is doing remarkably well. Although he misses the interaction with his fellow pupils and the teachers, he is still motivated and progressing well with his learning, and this is largely due to the hard work and dedication of the teaching staff. [His] days, through Google Classroom, are well structured; he enjoys the variety of work set and his teachers are always ready to assist should he have any queries. The support has been fantastic and I note the time taken by teachers to review and mark work, providing positive feedback together with constructive comments. These are challenging and difficult times but I am extremely grateful that [he] is at Ormiston, I cannot fault the level of support, organisation and work provided by the teaching staff.
I would also wish to take the opportunity to say thank you to Lisa Corbett with her regular wellbeing telephone calls, she is an absolute pleasure to speak to, and if we had hit any issues then I would have no hesitation in being able to speak with her.
Finally, thank you for your constant and consistent communication with us parents. I appreciate that you may not have all the answers as you are reliant upon government guidelines, which are often extremely unclear. However, the fact that you communicate all information and any updates, even if matters remain undecided, instills confidence, and emphasises that you are working for the wellbeing of our children.
Thank you once again to everyone at Ormiston for going above and beyond.
Parent Feedback May 2020
I've got to congratulate Emma Baker, not only for her leadership, but for her communication to parents and pupils. You are an inspiration. Your letter to pupils, dated 5th May was inspirational for me, as well as other family members. I'm so proud of Ormiston and inspired. You're amazing. I really appreciate the weekly calls and this week I even looked forward to it!
I just wanted to send you a message to thank you for everything you have done during this pandemic. I have been so impressed with your care and concern for the pupils and for us as parents by keeping us informed at every stage of what is going on and what measures you are putting in place to get the pupils back to school and to make it a safe place to be. This has made me feel confident that my decision to send [our son] back next week is the right one and I really appreciate that. After hearing on the news that some schools have not been able to provide school work for their pupils for various reasons, it makes me appreciate the effort that all the teachers have made to provide the lessons, videos and support to my boys which will help them not get behind when they do return.
The dedication of you and your staff has been impressive and I just wanted you to know that we appreciate all your hard work.

The school website is very informative, and supportive in many ways.
Personally i think you're all doing a great job at this difficult time and it's fantastic to see my child still learning and enjoying what he's doing - sometimes i have to tell him to stop and have a break. He is also super proud of the school and loves making music videos for everyone to see as he misses his friends and teachers.

Appreciate the efforts all teachers are going to to help support the children through these tricky times. It has been invaluable being able to keep in contact with teachers through messaging in order to answer questions. We as parents also now have a much greater understanding and respect of the frustrations teachers face on a daily basis with supporting our children's learning! Just a massive thank you to all those Teachers still working to support the continued education and learning.
