Miss Lauren Spencer (Staff governor) (term of office expires 17/07/2020)
Lauren Spencer is the staff governor for Ormiston Rivers Academy. Lauren is a graduate chemist and has supported the academy over the last two and a half years as a Science teacher, Head of Year and a mentor for newly qualified teachers. Lauren’s belief is that, in order for a student to flourish, it is essential for them to receive a diverse education that involves academic learning as well as opportunities beyond the classroom. As a passionate staff member, Lauren is looking forward to supporting the academy and its students through this role.
Mr David McNeill (term of office expires 01/07/2021)
David was born in South London, the Elephant and Castle, and moved to Peckham in 1965. He started work in 1965 in the Prison Department of the Home Office, and later joined Local Government in 1968 with the London Borough of Southwark. He moved to Basildon District Council in 1971 and Castle Point District (subsequently Borough) Council in 1974. David retired from full-time employment, as Deputy Director of Leisure Services with Castle Point Borough Council, in October 2000. He was appointed to the part-time post of Town Clerk and Responsible Finance Officer with Burnham-on-Crouch Town Council in May 2002 and moved to Burnham with his wife, Eva, in October 2002. They have one son and two grandchildren (6 years and 18 months) who currently live in Somerset. As Town Clerk, and supported by Eva, David established a "Burnham" lifestyle and made many friends and acquaintances in the Town. He joined the local Rotary Club and Eva joined the Inner Wheel Club and they are both members of the Burnham Sailing Club. David was engaged by the Chairmen of Maldon District and Essex County Councils to be Master of Ceremonies at the luncheon to honour Her Majesty The Queen when she visited Maldon in 2010. He retired from Burnham-on-Crouch Town Council in July 2016 but has maintained various voluntary roles, including being a Community Governor at Ormiston Rivers Academy, a role he has now held for many years.
Mr David Youngs (term of office expires 31/08/2022)
Dave and his family have lived in the Burnham area for over 45 years, originally coming from London. Their children and grandchildren all had successful secondary education at Ormiston Rivers Academy (previously St Peter's High School). Dave brings with him over 50 years of commercial business experience, where he has travelled to over 60 countries and experienced wide-ranging cultures and languages. It is this experience that he hopes to share with Ormiston Rivers Academy, where he sits as a local community governor and is the link governor for PPG and LAC pupils.
Miss Bryony Rochester (term of office expires 20/03/2023)
Bryony Rochester is in her first governor position. She has twenty years professional experience in the media industry where she is a Business Analyst, aiming to deliver opportunities towards strategic company aims. She has consulted across Europe in the media industry on developing strategic plans and delivering transformation and cultural change. Her true passion is working to understand and improve team dynamics and wider collaborations to enable a greater impact and to enable others to achieve their full potential. She is also a conformation dog show judge and on lists for both Alaskan Malamutes and Siberian Huskies.
Mr Franco Cocca (term of office expires 31/08/2023)
Franco has enjoyed a varied career of senior positions primarily in the manufacturing sector, working around the world for brands such as Bugatti and Scania automotive. His skill set is in operations, change management, process auditing, staff development and leadership, and driving organisational teams to become re-focused and motivated to be the best they can be. Franco is married to Dawn, who is an LSA at a local school in Braintree, their home town of 40 years. After listening to some of the challenges that make up the work day in schools, and coupling this with a natural curiosity, alongside the understanding that schools still need to be an efficiently run business, Franco was keen to offer his skills to the academy to help ensure the balance of the "business side" with the provision of the best possible outcomes in the form of a good education for the pupils and young adults of tomorrow.
Mrs Patricia May (parent governor) (term of office expires 16/01/2024)
This is Patricia's first role as a Parent Governor, and she is very keen to learn and support the Academy in what she describes as "the amazing journey that it has been on and is still building so well". Patricia, her husband (Peter May) and her 2 eldest daughters all attended the previous St Peter’s School and Patricia and Peter's daughter is now a pupil at Ormiston Rivers Academy. Patricia believes that she has achieved so much because of the support and opportunities the Academy has given. Patricia has had a variety of jobs throughout her life; including working for Access (the Joint Credit Card Company) and Fiveways, both as a computer operator. She then became a Post lady and also started an Avon round. Being local meant that Patricia could always be around for her children as they grew up which was very important to her. Patricia's Avon business has become very successful, and she is now one of the top Avon Representatives in the country, and also runs a stall at the weekly Burnham market. Patricia believes that being self-employed brings its own challenges but also rewards, but it also has the added bonus of being able to juggle parenthood, work and general family life.
Mr Peter May (parent governor) (term of office expires 16/01/2024)
Like his wife, Patricia, Peter has taken on his first role as a Parent Governor, and says " Bring it on!" Peter was born in Polstead in 1959 and moved to Wales when he was 8 months old. At the age of 13, his family moved to Essex and he attended St Peters High School. At the age of 14, Peter joined a local Youth Club, eventually getting on to the members' committee and later becoming Chairman of Tillingham Youth Club. In all, Peter was involved in the youth club for 26 years. After leaving school Peter joined the building trade, alongside DJing, To the present day, Peter is, in his words: "still building and rock 'n' rolling". Peter and Patricia are very busy people, undertaking many interests and activities in the local community, and hope that they can bring valuable input and local knowledge in their Governor roles in the limited time available to them.
